Few film that I have seen has been so independent in a positive sense as Sara Hribar a young female director from Croatia and the Slovenian Marko Santic “lada kameski” that is a little film with a very big pathos that Jelena Mila and the stuff of Balkan film festival has presented. The work is very well shot with and extremely precise photographic work by the DP Vjekoslav Skledar and an editing by Tomislav Pavlic that without any doubt is one of the best editor in the Croatian movie. In centre of the story we have a young director play by Frano Maskovic . He is a rather nervous and disharmonic person that has a really serious illness that has decide to present a work upon his aunt that like so many other worker on the textile industry has been fire. The director has decide to invite 3 woman Natasa Dorcic r nervous young lady that has problem with his lover that she try to live, Ksenija Marinkovic a rather overweight and sensual woman who has children teenager that make rather wild party and than the most great actress of all play by Doris Saric-Kukuljica that has some rather bad review about the fact that her husband chat upon her. She is really full of contempt with her colleugues that are taking works in soup opera alike Tv series. That will give a extra spice and bad relationship in between the woman
Sara Hribar hosted by Jelena Milla and the Blakan film festival has answer to some of your questions
For the first our compliment could you introduce this film to us?
Sara this is my first time in Sweden and my first features film. We have a really difficult precise we had try to get finance after that you have to reconsider and try to make as good as it get. We don’t have so much privilege you have to do small films that you can budget. The all period took 2 years and after a lot of reassures l it took 2 weeks. I don’t have to wait I made decision and we start to collaborate it took first actress and after everything else we made several meeting. I want to make the best of the situation a film that should have been small but also very big in his proposition
You are not the only Croatian film director that is a girl ?
I stated study at 2005 and even than we had six student and five of them are woman. This is in the studies; but in the work it is really bad. We have culture and mentality that is quite hard. We have some great female director Anna Hussk but the mummer goes always towards the man. The time are changing Anna huts had an award in veice and show the way. It is a popular movie from HBO but it is a lucky position for us. The are so much bather director than my self that are girl and woman but we cannot wait to make our debut at 50 years.
The woman are fighting in a had life situation where did you get the idea?
It is in our way of life a and man to man is like a wolf and something also with woman is this something bad or something that us love. I’m taking from my own life not from there. I worked with regionally successful actress that still has some kind iof problem. Woman are only reattached to man and there is always gosi that make it as vampire. The frustration and that problem we have in 45 to 60 woman that are only passing by in that baccarat why they haven’t their part. I made it myself. We worked in my apartment that we made so close as we could to a film set
Did you know them since before the actress before ?
I wrote if I want to have also some other person I wanted to make something that was super personal and I pretty much got them, I could
What was the camera?
It was shoot by a sorry c plus the bigger question I don’t like to miss personal and business the director that goes to the hospital I was sick and not able to walk and I took it from myself. I was living in the ground floor and I wanted to go something. I wanted to do a film that come for this need to do it my work. I set a designer. The doctor said you should do what you are going to make you happy.
The costume I think there is a wonderful work with them ?
The award of a topic that we should all think about the biggest problem in Balkan is the secondary role of woman. Costume designer was really good and the film is overlapping this film. For tis budget we do several kind of film . the collaboration was done with the really kameski woman that was the biggest factory and it despair over a knight. We wanted to make a film about the strugde they camped in the centre of Zagreb they didn’t have their payament in 10 yeas we weren’t able to shoot a movie about it.
The codirector?
I was recovering I wanted to know that in just I case I should have a persone Marko Kabtis we met in a Morocco in a film festival (there we had the idea of wine) I like to work with the actors not with a camera. He is a Slovenian it is so close but also so different- is bather to share the win and the failure.
The editing is a really great work- the editor tomza is the main work in any Croatian movie he does a great work.
Even if there is not a great situation people in this area work quite a lot what is the collaboration with other woman?
There was some possibility from other woman female has to make one all film. We should fight for some percent for film regulation they should give one kind of coutarion I’m not even in the top 20 some of them will not have their film ever. We have to create something. It isn’t because of the man it is ma fault it have to be consider. In Slovenia you have to find a woman in coratian we have 15 graduate from the film school. We cannot wait to be 50 years old to get film.
In Sweden you make 50 % and 50% in the budget. From quant to quality do you think it could work in Croatia?
Both yes or no we have been spoiled with several great movie presented in great festival like Berliner, Venice , Cannes and Rotterdam but the situation is not the best. We had a enorm uplifting when Games of Throndes come to shot in our city Dukrovkni but there are still a lot of problem that I hope se can solve to have a really great uplifting for the cinema industry.
One thing is sure Sara will be one of the protagonist of it
