Giacomo Battiato chose to focus with a really sure and clean direction on the context in which the crime story take place the fight between the German based imperator and the pope that in that time 1347 had been taked into captivity in South France Avignon. The pope is this particular series is Johan XXII paly by Tchéky Karyo , the style is natural but alo full of proud and full of himself with a big charisma. It is the use of light that is the main difference from the 1984 movie is the use of a much lighter photography and a more clear contest to give the idea of the majesty of the place. But as we did with .. in Stanley Kubrick “Paths of glory” it is the same with Rupert Everett’s Berando Gui. He truly believe that he is serving a hight proposal that he is serving a hight God and civilisation. After the fall of the Roman empire or provocateur by that a lot of the Roman law the interest in keeping the old civilisation was moved to the catholic church mostly in the look.
